In the middle section, you hike close to the river and experience how the landscape subtly changes. The mountains move a little further away, the valley becomes wider, and the sounds quieter. Often you only hear the rustling of the wind or the gentle lapping of the side arms. An ideal moment to stop, close your eyes, and take a deep breath 🌿🪑. Shortly before you reach Weißenbach, the path leads through a pleasant piece of forest that provides welcome shade and initiates the transition from the wide valley into the livelier village area 🌲. Upon arriving in Weißenbach, a quiet village with a friendly atmosphere awaits you, perfect for ending the day in a relaxed manner.

If you wish, you can use the Hahnenkamm cable car of the Reuttener Seilbahnen right in the morning and glide comfortably up into the mountain world on the Hahnenkamm 🚡. At the top, a beautiful view opens up over the Reutte basin and the surrounding peaks—an ideal place to pause briefly, walk a few steps, and enjoy the high-altitude air 🌄. Afterwards, you take the cable car back down into the valley and continue your hike on the Lechweg trail in the direction of Pflach. The path initially leads through meadows and small settlements before gradually separating slightly from the valley floor and shifting to the slope. Here, a trail branches off to the Costaries Chapel. The ascent is noticeable and steeper in places, but easy to walk and relatively short ⛰️. A quiet spot awaits you at the top at the Costaries Chapel with an impressive panoramic view over the Reutte basin, the Säuling peak, and the Lech Valley—a moment that is perfect for a longer break 🙏✨.
From there, the path continues towards Lake Frauensee (Frauensee lake), which is situated slightly above the valley in a forest hollow. From Pflach to Hohenschwangau
Your relaxed stage begins in Pflach and initially leads you out of the village towards the wooded slopes that slowly climb up towards the Säuling peak. The path runs pleasantly and quietly through mixed forest, along wide forest roads and soft forest trails 🌲🕊️. After just a few minutes, you leave the settlements behind and immerse yourself in a silent, green landscape where bird songs and the rustling of leaves accompany your way. The atmosphere changes noticeably on this section. The mountains draw nearer, the forests become denser, and occasionally small clearings open up, allowing beautiful views of the Reutte Valley or across to the higher peaks ⛰️✨. Time and again, spots by the wayside invite you to take a short break, breathe deeply, and enjoy the tranquility 🪑🌿.
The path finally leads into the area around the Säuling, whose striking shape repeatedly shimmers through the trees in this region. This passage is a particularly quiet part of the Lechweg: lots of nature, lots of forest, lots of time for yourself. The closer you get to Hohenschwangau, the more you feel the special atmosphere of this area. The forests thin out, the view opens up, and finally you reach the village that acts like a gateway to the 'Königswinkel' (King's Corner) region. The lakes, the mountains, and the silhouettes of the castles create a magical atmosphere that is immediately noticeable ✨🏰💙. Your hike ends at this point for today. From Hohenschwangau, you take the bus to Füssen in a completely relaxed manner, which brings you to the town in just a few minutes 🚌. Thanks to the division of this route into two parts, everything remains easy, pleasant, and calm—perfect for a leisurely journey without haste.

From Hohenschwangau to Füssen
The final day of hiking begins in a completely relaxed manner in Füssen. In the morning, you take the bus to Hohenschwangau, where your final relaxed stage begins 🚌✨. The special atmosphere of the place greets you immediately: mountains, forests, and the lake landscape around Schwangau create a magical setting that makes this day unique right from the start ⛰️💙.
From Hohenschwangau, the path leads pleasantly and quietly through light forests and small open passages back towards Füssen. A mountain peak occasionally flashes between the trees, or a gentle play of light falls onto the path. This is a section that should consciously be walked slowly! A final day to breathe deeply, feel, and enjoy 🌿🕊️. The path slopes gently downwards and combines idyllic forest trails with quiet moments where you can linger on a bench, look back, and calmly think about all the impressions of the past days 🪑✨. The proximity to the town is barely noticeable, yet you realize how, step by step, the destination is approaching.
Finally, the path opens up and you reach the Lechfall (Lech Waterfall), the powerful conclusion of the entire Lechweg trail. Here, the Lech plunges down several steps into the depths in a narrow gorge—turquoise, loud, and full of energy 🌊💙. An impressive contrast to the quiet, calm stages of the past days and a place that is perfectly suited to consciously round off the journey. Many hikers stay here for a longer moment, lean on the railing or sit on a bench, look down at the water, and review their experiences 🌄🪑.
From here, it is just a short, comfortable stroll back to the center of Füssen, where your journey officially ends and you can organize the last day entirely to your taste. With a coffee, dinner, or simply a relaxed walk through the old town ☕✨. A quiet, soulful conclusion that worthily rounds off two weeks full of nature, time, and lightness.

If you have enough time, enjoy the charming old town of Füssen one more time, stroll through the winding alleys, or visit the famous royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau—a fitting conclusion to your hike.
Should you want to experience the special atmosphere by the river for longer, there is the option to continue your route on the Lech Adventure Trail (Lech-Erlebnisweg) all the way to Landsberg am Lech. Alternatively, the King Ludwig Trail (König-Ludwig-Weg) invites you on a cultural-historical extension to Starnberg. Hike in the footsteps of the Bavarian fairytale king through dreamlike pre-alpine landscapes.
No matter what you decide, the Lech and its stories will surely accompany you further in your thoughts for a while.
Requirements for hikers
The Lechweg follows various hiking trails, forest paths, and roads, and mostly runs through forests along the Lech river. On individual sections, particularly on the first stage from Lake Formarin, narrow paths lead over rocky passages and ledges, where some sure-footedness is required. It can be slippery in places when it rains. Overall, the Lechweg is technically easy and can be managed well with a good basic level of fitness. Along the way, there are always opportunities to continue by bus if your stamina starts to wane. You can also find a bench at every opportunity to linger and rest.

Climate in the Lech Valley
The climate along the Lechweg ranges from alpine to subalpine and varies significantly depending on the altitude. At the source near Lake Formarin at almost 1,800 m, it is noticeably cooler and fresher, while the lower Lech Valley and Füssen already have milder, pre-alpine conditions. Summers are mostly pleasantly warm, with average temperatures between 15°C and 25°C in the valley. At higher altitudes, it can be cool and windy even in summer. Rain occurs regularly throughout the year, especially in July and August when short afternoon thunderstorms often form. After rain, paths can become slippery in places. The best time for a hike is from June to early October, when the trails are largely snow-free and temperatures are pleasant.
Cuisine along the Lechweg
Along the Lechweg, Tyrolean-Alpine cuisine and traditional Allgäu home cooking combine to create a real delight for hikers. In the inns (Gasthöfe) and alpine huts (Almen), regional products are highly valued: cheese from the Lech Valley, fresh trout from the Lech river, game specialties, as well as homemade dumplings (Knödel), Kasspatz'n (cheese noodles), or Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake dessert) are on the menu almost everywhere. In the Allgäu region, traditional cheese dairies, sweet apple fritters (Apfelküchle), or a cool wheat beer await you at the end of a stage. Whether a rustic mountain hut or a cozy inn in the valley, the Lechweg can not only be hiked but also tasted.
